What is a Dental X-Ray?

Image of a dentist reviewing a dental x-ray.A focus on preventive dentistry helps you maintain the highest standard of oral health while limiting dental expenditures. A partnership between you and our team pays dividends, protecting your smile now and well into the future.

At home, prevention may include brushing and flossing twice a day. But many strategies and oral health aids exist that may fit your situation even better. Often patients are surprised to learn that a particular toothpaste, rinse, or specialized toothpick will serve them best and make all the difference in their efforts.

We can help customize solutions that enhance your daily efforts, often turning frustration into smiles at the healthy changes that occur.

Why are Dental X-Rays necessary?

Dental x-rays are needed to help in maintaining a healthy, full smile. You will probably need x-rays taken at most of your appointments so that we can check for any changes and determine proper treatment. Some things that a dental x-ray will check for include:

  • Cavities
  • Abscesses
  • Damaged Restorations
  • Impacted Wisdom Teeth
  • Bone Loss
  • Cysts and Tumors of the Jaws
  • Evaluating Existing Dental Work
  • Evaluating the Growth Pattern of Jaws
  • Evaluating the Tips of the Roots of the Teeth
  • Evaluating the Eruption of Permanent Teeth

What makes you a candidate for Dental X-Rays?

Most of Dr. Bhandaru’s patients are good candidates for dental x-rays because of the minimal amount of radiation that’s used. They are safe to have taken and are critical in maintaining optimal oral health. Children and adults alike can have x-rays taken in our office. They can be taken at regular checkup appointments as well as emergency and surgical visits.

What happens when Dental X-Rays are being taken?

One of our professional and fully trained staff members will bring you into our office. You will be seated and a lead apron draped over your shoulders for protection. A small device is positioned inside your mouth and the x-ray machine angled at the device. The x-ray is then taken and will immediately transpose itself onto our computer screen. Dr. B will then use this image to identify certain conditions and intra-oral problems before planning treatment. X-rays are quick and easy to take and the benefits of having them done in our office are crucial to maintaining a healthy smile. Dr. Bhandaru and our team will do everything that we can to help in planning the right treatment for your dental needs.

If you need new dental x-rays and are ready to come in for an appointment, call us today and we will work to answer all of your questions.
