What are Partials and Dentures?

Image of a pair of dentures. Both partials as well as dentures are prosthetic appliances that are worn to replace many or all missing teeth. Partials have several teeth connected to one appliance that is then worn similarly to an orthodontic retainer. A full denture replaces an entire arch of missing teeth and works by creating a suction inside of the mouth to stay in place. Your partial or full denture can last for up to seven years with proper care.

Why are Partials and Dentures needed?

A full denture is needed when you are missing an entire arch of teeth. Extractions may be necessary before a denture is made and placed. Partial dentures are ideal for patients who have just a few missing teeth and do not need any more extractions done. These appliances not only improve the actual look of your smile, but they can be helpful in restoring function to the mouth.

What makes you a good candidate for Partials and Dentures?

The procedure to make and place both a partial and full denture is easy and done quickly. In fact, many patients find that having a new prosthesis made helps to improve their confidence and their ability to eat, chew and speak. You can come in for an exam and consultation with us so that we can determine if dentures are the right choice for you. Many people who need dentures can easily have the procedure done in our office.

What happens during the Partial and Denture procedure?

You will come in for a consultation to help in getting a new denture made for you. Impressions, also known as molds, are taken and will be used to create the new prosthesis. You’ll come back in for a second appointment to have the denture fitted. It is not uncommon for dentures, both full and partials, to need several adjustments before fitting comfortably. Dr. Bhandaru can provide as many adjustments and fittings as possible to get your new denture to sit and feel just right. Your new prosthesis will last for five to seven full years with proper care.
